The buzz of BorderBizcamp – another cracking success

Last Saturday, over 190 people from 16 counties in Ireland gathered at Monaghan Institute for the 6th BorderBizcamp conference.  From early morning to mid-afternoon people of all ages flowed into the wonderful venue that Monaghan Institute provides. Offering a package of knowledge, inspiration and networking, BorderBizcamp provided a high energy experience with plenty of great learning takeaways from a varied panel of 20 speakers – and boy did they deliver! Here are some of the comments from attendees:

  • “Another great, productive, educational day at #borderbizcamp – Leaving inspired again. Thanks to all the volunteers & speakers @BorderBizCamp
  • “I think it is a quite brilliant day that should be shared in every county in Ireland. It should be a MUST for every County Enterprise Board. Enterprise Ireland should request all counties to do it. They won’t beat Monaghan but so much would be learnt from trying. A truly great team, you should be running the country !!”
  • I just wanted to drop you an email to let you know that I thought the event on Saturday was excellent. The speaker line-up was of an extremely high standard and there were great takeaways from each one I went to.”

This year’s event was the biggest to date and featured two stellar key note speakers – in the morning Gerry McCaughey, Entekra Inc (former CEO of Century Homes and Kingspan Century) who presented a very convincing solution to housing issues in both this country and the US – factory constructed structures both guarantee consistent built-quality and can be erected in a fraction of the time it currently takes to build houses on site.  In the afternoon, the event was closed by Professor Niall Moyna giving an impassioned plea for people to engage in regular exercise of any sort, in order to reduce health risks and their consequent burden on the already creaking health system.

“We are thrilled with the how the event went from start to finish,” said Ruth Daly, Sort-it, coordinator of the event. “This year we have welcomed the largest audience numbers who have been informed and wowed by the business stories and experiences of a wonderful line up of speakers – over half of whom were born and bred in Monaghan, which pays testimony to the natural entrepreneurial spirit which exists in the Monaghan genes”.

The day would not have been possible without the support of BorderBusiness sponsors: Monaghan Local Enterprise Office, CASPAC Packaging, Plato EBR, LACPatrick, Enterprising Monaghan, Monaghan Insititute, BRIX Workwear, Eugene Hamill Photography, Aura Internet, Sky Rocket Media, O’Gormans Supervalu Carrickmacross, Linwoods,Faringford Foods, The Squealing Pig, The Westenra Hotel and BLASTA in addition to our team of volunteers who brought it all together.

Watch out for speaker presentations as they are received over the coming weeks.
