The Buzz of Business at BorderBizcamp

The M:TEK Building on the Armagh Road was a buzz with business contacts and chat on Saturday last, as the first ever BorderBizcamp took place.  This unusual business event, which attracted almost 140 participants from 14 counties along the border and even as far afield as Wexford and Cork, had a packed agenda of 24 local and international business speakers to be heard during the course of the day.

Some of the objectives of the event, were to get business people together to connect, share knowledge and to raise the energy of business along the border.  These objectives were certainly achieved as attendees listened, tweeted and networked throughout the day with many of the speakers joining in outside of their talking spots.  Contributions came via Skype links from Denver Colerado, Boston and California illustrating the connectivity Monaghan has with the rest of the world.

Feedback about the event was flowing on Twitter (#borderbizcamp) even before the event had finished and one attendee summed up the impact of the event very well, “I thoroughly enjoyed myself whilst meeting some lovely like-minded people, all very positive indeed. The whole atmosphere was full of enthusiasm and the way in which the day flowed is a credit to your team, it was very professional yet relaxed and informal at the same time” Dr. Amanda McQuaid, Monaghan.

The icing on the cake as far as the organisers are concerned is the fact that one of the attendees secured a job interview, as a result of a conversation with a business owner at the event and they have just heard that that there has a been a positive result, with the gentleman in question starting a new job next week – the power of networking at work!
